            • University Chamber Orchestra

The University Chamber Orchestra presents its end of semester concert under the direction of guest conductor Marshunda Smith. The concert includes "Odd Bits and Snatches: a patchwork suite" written by Danvers-based composer Charles Turner. Five of the six pieces are arranged from piano pieces and chamber orchestra pieces Turner had written previously. The sixth piece, "Sarabande" is new work. All of the pieces were made specifically for this concert. The program also includes Symphony No. 1 in B Minor, Op. 4 by Anton Arensky. and "Undine Overture" by Albert Lortzing. Marshunda Smith is a conductor, teacher and cellist based on Boston's North Shore. Smith is currently Conductor and Music Director of The Lowell Philharmonic. The University Chamber Orchestra is a full symphonic ensemble comprised of both student and community musicians and includes strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion. All are welcomed to study and perform challenging orchestral works for strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion. The Recital Hall is located at 71 Loring Avenue on Salem State's Harrington Campus. Parking is available directly across the street from 71 Loring Ave. Admission to this concert is free, although donations at the door in support of scholarships for music majors are welcome.
