            • Free garden passes and colonial carpentry demonstrations June 2 at The Gables

SALEM — This summer’s first 17th Century Saturday at The House of the Seven Gables is Saturday, June 2, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. All are welcome to take part in tours and special programs. The Gables’ visitors may use free garden passes to explore the National Historic Landmark District’s colorful seaside gardens, use the UniGuide app to learn more about the property’s six historic structures, and participate in a Living History Lab at the 1682 Hooper–Hathaway House. Educator Mike Welch will be on hand from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to demonstrate the tools and techniques of early American woodworkers. Guided tours of The House of the Seven Gables are $15. 17th Century Saturdays are held in partnership with the North of Boston Convention and Visitors Bureau. Special programming that showcases Essex County’s First Period architectural gems can be found throughout Boston’s North Shore. Essex County is home to an extraordinary collection of homes, buildings and artifacts from America’s First Period (1625–1725) of European settlement. 17th Century Saturdays are another opportunity to learn more about these architectural treasures and discover what it was like to live in Essex County during America’s first century. 17th Century Saturdays will be held the first Saturday of each month from June through October at The Gables and throughout Essex County. Those interested may contact Dan Marshall at dmarshall@7gables.org, or call 978-744-0991, ext. 101. For more information about 17th Century Saturdays around the region, visit www.northofboston.org. Future 17th Century Saturdays are: July 7, August 4, September 1 and October 6.
