            • Eve Dizio/ Honors in Art (3D)

Senior Eve Dizio presents their Honors in Art Exhibition April 27 - May 15. Additional exhibition events on April 28 Artist talk - 12:30-1:30 pm Reception - 1:30-3 pm ARTIST STATEMENT This show is a culmination of my creative exploration throughout these past four years that I have spent working on my bachelors degree. I wanted this show to reflect what I have learned and my own thoughts and ideas regarding the expansive world of art. I focused on creating tactile work for many reasons. One idea is based on my observations of life after covid, how physical contact has become anxiety inducing rather than comforting. This addresses the consequences of a primarily digital age lacking the ability to engage the human instinct to touch. As we press on into the age of AI and other technological advancements, many of which have great potential, we risk the loss of traditional craftsmanship. Many traditional methods of craft can accomplish things that will never be possible using different technology. I believe this knowledge should be respected, valued, and preserved. Fundamentals will certainly outlive any new technology developed. In addition to that, I discovered a number of visually impaired artists who opened my eyes (no pun intended) to the greater possibilities of life and art. I thought about the uncertainty of life and considered the possibility of losing my own sight and how much visual art depends on only one of the five senses. I wanted to create tactile work with the intention for visually impaired people to directly experience my work without the need for accommodation or translation. I’ve continued to research blind and visually impaired artists who create amazing tactile artwork that I find inspiring. Image: Eve Dizio, TOUCH ME (detail)
