            • Vijay Seshadri on Wallace Stevens’ "Harmonium"

Wallace Stevens’ groundbreaking first book of poems, Harmonium, released in 1923, has influenced generations of poets. Anthologized poems from the collection, such as “The Snow Man,” “Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Blackbird,” “The Emperor of Ice Cream,” and “Sunday Morning,” continue to be taught today in American classrooms. Join Pulitzer-Prize winning poet Vijay Seshadri as he shares his thoughts on this influential poet and collection on the (belated) 100th anniversary of its publication.

This event is sponsored in conjunction with the Salem State University.

Vijay Seshadri was born in India in 1954, and moved to America at the age of five. He is the author of the poetry books Wild Kingdom, The Long Meadow, The Disappearances, 3 Sections, and That Was Now, This Is Then, as well as many essays, reviews, and memoir fragments. His work has been recognized with a number of honors, including the Pulitzer Prize for poetry. He teaches at Sarah Lawrence College.
