SUMMARY:Scallops on Acid: Underwater in Salem Sound Lecture Series
DESCRIPTION:Join Salem Sound Coastwatch and the Abbot Public Library in Marblehead for the first presentation in our 2020 Underwater in Salem Sound Lecture Series. On Wednesday\, January 29th from 7-8:30pm at the Abbot Public Library\, come and learn about the healthy sea scallops that live in Salem Sound and what we can do to keep them that way.\n\n \n\nLouise Cameron will share with us what makes scallops so unique and delicious. She will discuss her current work on scallops to give us an idea of how they may respond to living in an ocean that is becoming more acidic. Annually\, more than $500 million worth of Atlantic sea scallops are harvested off the U.S. Atlantic coast. The current sea scallop fishery is so healthy and valuable in part\, because it is well managed\, but how will a future of increased ocean acidification affect scallops?\n\n \n\nUnderwater in Salem Sound is jointly sponsored by Salem Sound Coastwatch and the Abbot Public Library. Free and open to the public. For more information info@salemsound.org or call 978-741-7900.
